Edo guber candidate Obaseki steps down for PDP’s Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu

In a dramatic twist in Benin, the Accord Party gubernatorial candidate and younger brother to Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Party, Dr Don Pedro Obaseki has stepped down for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the September 10 2016 election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, collapsing his entire political structure into the PDP.

Dr. Obaseki, a veteran writer and university lecturer, said he decided to endorse Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu because he realised that Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is the best candidate for the election, describing Adams Oshiomhole and his brother, Godwin Obaseki as betrayers and unworthy of trust.

Chairman of Accord Party and all members of the executive council of the party were present at the home of Dr Pedro Obaseki where the endorsement took place.
Don Pedro Obaseki, speaking in Edo Language, endorsed Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and said he was the best person for the job, since he was not able to get it.

“Prior to this day I had thought that I would be the one the save Edo but because we do not always get all what we desire, I have in the past days and weeks consulted widely and extensively and have come to a conclusion on the way to take. Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is the way to go. He is the best person for the job. I would chase Oshiomhole out of Edo state. 22 years ago I was a young lecturer when we were fighting the NADECO fights against Abacha.

It was Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu who gave me the needed 300 naira to escape from Benin from the danger of Abacha. He may have forgotten but I remember.”

The PDP chairman of Edo state, Chief Dan Osi Orbih, said that Dr Obaseki was welcome to the fold and that he would be received with full arms because he was “an asset to the party and not a businessman”.

Responding, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu welcome Dr Don Pedro Obaseki and asked him to join in the campaigns to tell the good people of Edo state the good things he has seen.
