The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has promised to establish farm in each of the 18 local government areas of the state with the sum of N100 million within the first six months of his coming into office.
Obaseki, who made the promise while addressing a conglomerate of associations in the state, including that of the farmers, said the farmers should see themselves as having no more problems as soon as he is sworn in as the governor of the state.
According to him, within the first six months of us coming into the office, I will create and give a N100 million each for farms to be located in every local government area.
“We will sit down with the communities and they will make one square mile of land available in every local government area which will be known as district farms.
“For the urban areas like Oredo and so on, we can do things like fishery; we can do things like poultry farming and piggery in a large scale. Then we can bring in young farmers and give them their own portions to farm.
“The important thing is that you have somebody ready to buy what you have grown for the price that you have administered so that you can make money. So I will not do it in senatorial district, I will do it in the local government area level.
“And we will do it within the first six months, that is before the next rainy season all these will be set. What I have noticed in government these past seven years, the way the government operates from colonial times when you reach inside government, you will not really see somebody that comes out every day to say okay, automobile mechanics how are they doing?
“How do we help them and how do we work with them? It is as if it is only when elections come that we will call you people like this. So we have to look for a way beyond having one special adviser on automobile to make sure we ask which ministry is in charge to make us know that we are taking care of these people.
“As governor, I will sit down and ask at the end of every month what happened in this association? How many members and so on because they have to continue to create work and that is how we plan to create jobs.
“The job creation programme is not only the one governor will give, it is when I look for a certain people, I give them a new area, I create a big market for them. Many people are coming to buy computers, then the person that has one shop will employ two or three people, the other one will do the same, before you know it there will be provision of jobs.
“So the work that we want to create is not the work where a person will just sit in the office. It is by making sure that we support your business as your business is growing that is how you will be employing other people to work with you.”
