Like it was on October 1st, 1960 many Nigerians trooped out in their thousands to celebrate the emergence of a new order, a new system, a new dawn and a new destiny.
The atmosphere was filled with oil of gladness and achievement, the day was bobbling in ecstasy in anticipation of the unveiling of the new captain who will not only rescue the sinking ship, but also steer it to heavenly destination.
Hope was again rekindled when the captain emerged with his now very boring 'change' mantra.
It was on a Friday, May 29th, 2015 and it was a special day. It was a special day not because the new captain was President Muhammadu Buhari, but because the bearers of the umbrella couldn't convince Nigerians enough that that the bearers of the brooms were coming to sweep away their shelter and have it replaced with hardship.
Then came the historic moment: The swearing - in - ceremony of the ' broom of convenience ' hurriedly put together to grab the center.
The bearers of the broom immediately took the centre stage with reassuring words to transform Nigeria and make it a paradise on earth.
365 days after the promise of paradise, the game, according to Reuben Abatti changed. Hardship enveloped the land, opposition became a taboo, banks sacking staff, foodstuffs became abnormally expensive, forex became a problem, ministers threatening to resign, others fighting in town hall meeting, some people started regretting trekking from Lagos to Abuja, rescued chibok girl disappears, fuel became N145/L, budget became padded, power became powerless, Boko Haram became technically defeated, FulaniHerdsmen started trending, corruption fight became selective, election of Buhari became a historic error, people started complaining, this Buhari period! became a popular slogan and suddenly change became boring.
